You Can Have Good Sitting Posture with Outdoor Furniture

I have made a lot of money on this kind of chair (Figure 1). It definitely isn't good for sitting posture. I know it’s probably comfortable when you’re sitting on it but, I also know that you’ll pay for it later with back pain, neck pain, or a headache.

Good sitting posture requires that your hips are a bit higher than your knees. Try one of these pop-out camping chairs (Figure 2) instead. It’s my go-to chair for camping, watching sports, or just sitting on the deck. It’s high enough that when I sit on it my hips stay up above my knees. For chairs like this patio chair (Figures 3,4), place a wedge shaped seat cushion on it to get your hips higher in back. Just be sure the cushion is firm and not soft like a sponge.  You can put your regular cushion on top to cover to cover the seat cushion.
